JJM Design is a landscape architecture firm offering a range of services to public and private clients. John Meaney founded JJMD at the end of 2012 after 12 years of working for design firms in Charlottesville and Baltimore.  John strives to integrate ecology and design, constructing landscapes that articulate, celebrate and embrace the natural qualities of a place. His comprehensive approach to project design, development and management are balanced by an overriding sensitivity to ecology and the local context and conditions of each project.

JJMD’s projects balance strong design sensibilities and acute attention to detail with stakeholder interests, achieving solutions that address complex issues by layering natural systems with opportunities for human interaction and occupation. Creating spaces that manage flows of people, water, and energy, JJMD makes these systems legible and interactive, dissolving impediments to successful relationships between people and nature.

John’s greatest successes derive from a highly synergetic approach with clients and consultants. He is a respected collaborator and facilitator on diverse project teams. This spirit permeates JJMD’s ethic and generates a dialogue between client and design, ultimately creating opportunities for JJMD to respond imaginatively to the site and project goals—recognizably meeting the client’s needs and respecting their values.
