JJM DESIGN | LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
John Meaney, RLA, ASLA
Adjacent to a tract of urban forest and one mile from the University of Virginia campus, this design re-imagined a previously steep-sloped and unusable backyard. A series of connected terraces bridge the forest and house, expanding the family’s usable space, creating outdoor “rooms” for entertaining and for more intimate time spent with family.
The composition of plants and architecture provide privacy and frame views into the forest, amplifying its best qualities - canopy, color, and dappled light – while a custom designed hearth is the centerpiece of a new outdoor room.
