The renovated building was adapted for new use as office space for the University’s senior administrative staff and other administrative functions. Project goals included preserving the historic and architectural significance and restoring the site’s aesthetic qualities. Site circulation and accessibility were upgraded/introduced and formal outdoor gathering spaces in the form of a bluestone paved terrace with low stone veneer seat walls were constructed. To manage the increase in impervious surfaces, a terraced bioretention basin was introduced. Native plants were used to reinforce the building’s connection to the street while also being employed to frame gathering spaces and primary circulation paths. (Photos by Michael Spory)
